About the Faculty

The Faculty of Environment, Gender, and Development Studies (FEGDS) at Hawassa University is a multidisciplinary academic hub that addresses critical and cross-cutting development challenges. The Faculty’s core focus areas include Agricultural Economics, Rural Development, Climate Change and Sustainable Agriculture, Agribusiness and Value Chain Management, Gender and Environment, Sustainable Development with strong alignment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 1, 2, 5, 9, and 13) and Green Economy Transition. Through an integrated approach, FEGDS contributes to national and global development goals by advancing inclusive, equitable, and sustainable solutions.

To fulfill its mission, the Faculty delivers a wide range of services including:

• Teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels,
• Professional training for capacity development,
• Advisory and consultancy services to governmental and non-governmental organisations,
• Action research that informs policy and practice, and
• Community engagement and outreach focused on gender equity, environmental sustainability, and rural transformation. 

Through these programs, FEGDS is committed to developing highly qualified and committed professionals who will play a transformative role in Ethiopia’s sustainable development efforts.
