About the School
The history of School of Plant and Horticulture Sciences roots back to the establishment of the college of Agriculture in 1976, when a 2-year Diploma program was given in Plant Science and Technology. In 1990-91 academic year a four-year program was launched under the Department of Plant Production and Dry Land Farming. The Department of Plant Production and Dry land farming, now school of Plant and Horticultural Sciences, continues its excellence in Agriculture and related field of studies, and are offering 5 PhD (Agronomy, Horticulture, Soil Science, Agricultural Entomology and Plant Biotechnology), 9 MSc (Agronomy, Horticulture, Soil Science, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Breeding, Agroforestry, Plant Protection, Crop Protection, and Bioenergy Science and Technology) and 2 BSc (Plant Science and Horticulture) with highly calibrated , and nationally and Internationally known academic staffs.
Currently, the School of Plant and Horticultural Sciences has more than 40 academic staffs on duty including 4 full professors and 14 Associate professor who are involving directly in teaching, research and supervision of students in various fields of agricultural sciences. In addition, more than 10 academic staffs are attending their PhD and MSc studies in different fields, which are additional potential for further expansion and quality education in the school and the College at large. The number of completed and undergoing National and Internationally Funded Research programs, and community services are the witness for commitment, qualification and composition of the staff in the school. The academic staffs, available research and lab facilities, and international cooperation among others are resources for the school to be continued as a center of excellence in research and education in the field of plant science and related studies.
